Official Florida Background Checks

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is the state repository. Its instant CCH name search costs $24 plus the portal's stated $1 card-processing fee and returns a printable or emailable noncertified result. A staff-conducted search costs $24; FDLE states about five business days for noncertified service and six to seven business days for certified service, excluding mail. The search covers publicly releasable Florida information, not a nationwide record.

For review and correction of one's own record, FDLE provides a free fingerprint-based Personal Review process. Fingerprints establish identity more reliably than a name. Florida also uses approved Livescan submitters for checks required by a statute or agency, but the correct ORI, appointment rules, and vendor fee depend on the purpose. For an expunged record, most listed entities see only that relief occurred unless a court orders more access. Juvenile information, protected victim details, Social Security numbers, and financial-account numbers can also be restricted without sealing the entire case.

Court-ordered expungement generally requires a qualifying nonconviction outcome, while sealing may fit a qualifying withhold of adjudication. FDLE first issues a Certificate of Eligibility, and the applicant then petitions the Walton court. The certificate is not a court order. Florida generally permits one court-ordered sealing or expungement in a lifetime, subject to statutory exceptions and judicial review.

Federal Records for Walton County

Federal criminal cases from Walton County belong to the Pensacola Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. PACER requires an account and, as of July 2026, charges $0.10 per page, generally capped at $3 for a document or case-specific report. The quarterly fee is waived when usage is $30 or less. Court opinions and courthouse public terminals are free.
